Go-to-Market department
Email and lifecycle marketing, run as a department
Most email programmes are a newsletter, a welcome email written years ago and an abandoned-cart flow nobody has opened since it launched. Nexoryl builds and runs lifecycle messaging as a managed department: journeys mapped to how customers actually behave, segmented, tested and reported, inside the email platform you already pay for.
The first button opens an email to info@nexoryl.com.
You bring
- Your email platform and data
- Consent records and policy
- Brand and product information
Nexoryl runs
- Lifecycle map
- Automated flows
- Campaigns
- Segmentation
- Deliverability
You get
- Journeys that run without manual sends
- Email that reaches the inbox
- Revenue or pipeline by flow
- Operating model
- A managed department with a lifecycle map, a campaign calendar and a testing plan. Not a designer sending whatever is ready on Thursday.
- Delivery model
- Remote. Flows, templates, segments and reports are built in your email platform and connected data.
- Usual starting scope
- An audit of flows and deliverability, then the three or four automations that matter most for your model.
- Typical roles
- A lifecycle lead, an email marketing specialist, and template and copy support.
- Runs inside
- Your email platform and CRM, connected to your store, product or customer data.
- Engagement
- An audit and core-flow build, then a monthly retainer for campaigns and optimisation.
Overview
What is lifecycle marketing?
Lifecycle marketing is messaging timed to where a customer is in their relationship with you: signing up, buying for the first time, becoming a regular, going quiet, or coming up for renewal.
Email is usually the main channel, with SMS or in-app messages where your platform supports them. The difference from batch newsletters is that messages are triggered by behaviour and data, so the right people get the right message without someone sending it by hand.
Nexoryl model
What does Nexoryl's Email & Lifecycle department do?
It maps your customer lifecycle, builds and maintains the automated journeys and campaigns that support it, protects deliverability, and reports what each flow and campaign actually contributes.
It works with Content for longer copy, Marketing for campaign planning and Revenue Operations where CRM data drives segmentation.
- Responsible for
- Lifecycle mapping, automated flows, campaign calendars, segmentation, templates, testing, deliverability and reporting.
- Not included
- Buying or renting email lists, legal advice on consent, and printed direct mail.
- Connects to
- Marketing, Content, Revenue Operations and Data & Analytics.
The lifecycle
The journeys most programmes need.
Not every business needs all eight. Ecommerce and subscription models weight them very differently, which is settled in the audit.
- 01
Welcome
The first impression after sign-up: what to expect and the obvious next step.
- 02
Onboarding
For products and services that need setting up before they're useful.
- 03
Activation
Nudges towards the first meaningful action, such as a first order or a first real use.
- 04
Browse and cart recovery
Triggered when someone looks or adds to basket but doesn't finish.
- 05
Post-purchase
Order follow-up, how-to content and the right moment to ask for a review.
- 06
Nurture
Longer sequences for B2B leads who aren't ready to talk to sales.
- 07
Win-back
For customers who have gone quiet, before they're gone for good.
- 08
Renewal and retention
Reminders and value recaps ahead of renewal dates.
Where programmes lose money
Four reasons email quietly underperforms.
Email rarely breaks loudly. It decays: flows go stale, deliverability slips, and nobody notices until revenue from the channel is down.
Flows built once and never revisited
- Shows up as
- Automations still referencing old products, prices or offers.
- We look at
- Every live flow, its trigger, content and current performance.
- What changes
- A flow inventory with an owner and a review date for each one.
Deliverability problems nobody noticed
- Shows up as
- Engagement sliding while volume stays the same, and messages landing in spam.
- We look at
- SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication, bounce and complaint rates, list hygiene and sending patterns.
- What changes
- Authentication fixed, sunset rules for unengaged contacts, and sending reputation monitored.
Everyone gets the same email
- Shows up as
- One campaign to the whole list, every time.
- We look at
- The data you already hold: purchase history, plan, behaviour and engagement.
- What changes
- Segments that reflect real differences in what customers need.
Decisions made on open rates
- Shows up as
- Subject lines judged on opens that privacy features in some mail apps now inflate.
- We look at
- How clicks, conversions and revenue or pipeline are attributed to sends.
- What changes
- Reporting built on clicks and downstream outcomes, with opens treated as a weak signal.
What the department covers
Email and lifecycle services.
Strategy, builds and day-to-day sending in one team, so the person who designed a flow is the person who sees how it performs.
Lifecycle strategy
Which messages, triggered by what, for whom.

- Trigger and timing design
- Channel mix: email, SMS, in-app
- Programme roadmap
Automation builds
Flows built and tested in your platform.

- Cart, browse and post-purchase flows
- Nurture and win-back sequences
- Renewal and re-engagement
Campaigns
Scheduled sends, planned rather than improvised.
- Campaign calendar
- Promotional and editorial sends
- Product and feature announcements
- Send-time and frequency planning

- Behavioural and value segments
- Preference centres
- CRM and store data sync
- Suppression and sunset rules
Templates and copy
Emails that render properly and read well.

Deliverability and testing
Getting to the inbox, then finding out what works.
- SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks
- List hygiene and bounce handling
- A/B and holdout testing
- Rendering and link QA
How remote delivery works
How an email engagement runs.
Nothing new is built until we know what's already live, what it earns and whether it's reaching the inbox.
- 01
Step 1: Access and audit
Access to your email platform, data connections and domain settings. Every flow, segment and template is inventoried and deliverability is checked.
- 02
Step 2: Lifecycle map
Journeys, triggers and priorities agreed, based on your customer model and the data available.
- 03
Step 3: Build and QA
Flows and templates built, tested across email clients, and checked against your consent records before going live.
- 04
Step 4: Run the calendar
Campaigns planned monthly, approved by you, sent and monitored.
- 05
Step 5: Test and report
A rolling test plan, with monthly reporting on revenue or pipeline by flow and campaign.
Consent and unsubscribe handling follow the records in your platform. In the UK, email marketing consent falls under PECR and UK GDPR; we build to your policy, and legal interpretation stays with your advisers.
Scope and boundaries
What's included, and what stays with you.
The clearest line is consent: we send only to contacts your records show have agreed to hear from you.

Tools and platforms
Where the work happens.
We work in the platform you have. A migration is only recommended when the current one genuinely can't do what the programme needs.

Measurement
How an email department is measured.
Revenue or pipeline first, engagement second, and list health underneath both.
Revenue or pipeline
- Revenue per recipient
- Revenue or pipeline by flow
- Conversion rate by flow
Engagement
- Click rate
- Click-to-conversion rate
- Unsubscribe rate
Deliverability
- Bounce rate
- Spam complaint rate
- Inbox placement where measured
List health
- Share of active subscribers
- Growth from consented sources
- Sunset and suppression volumes
These are measurement categories, not promised figures.
Who does the work
The people behind your email programme.
Small and specialised. Most programmes need strategy, builds and copy rather than a large team.
Lifecycle Lead
Owns the lifecycle map, priorities, testing plan and monthly review.
Email Marketing Specialist
Builds flows and segments, schedules campaigns and monitors deliverability.
Email Developer and Copywriter
Builds responsive templates and writes subject lines and body copy.
A good fit when
- Your flows were set up once and haven't been touched since
- Email revenue or pipeline has dropped without an obvious reason
- You're moving, or need to move, to a new email platform
- Nobody owns deliverability
Probably not the right fit when
- You want to email bought or scraped lists
- You need printed mailings
- You only want occasional newsletter design
Ways to start
Three ways to begin.
The audit usually pays for its own time by finding broken or missing flows.
Email audit
Flows, segments, templates and deliverability reviewed, with a prioritised list of fixes and missing journeys.
Core flow build
The highest-value automations built and tested as a scoped project, often alongside a platform migration.
Managed department
Campaigns, flow optimisation, testing and reporting on a monthly retainer.
Fees depend on list size, platform and the number of flows in scope, and are agreed after the audit.
Related departments
Departments that work alongside email.
Lifecycle messaging depends on good data and good content as much as good automation.
Marketing
Campaign plans and positioning the calendar carries.
Content
Longer editorial content emails point to.
Revenue Operations
The CRM data that drives segmentation and B2B nurture.
Data & Analytics
Deeper analysis of customer behaviour and lifetime value.

Questions
Questions about email and lifecycle marketing.
If your question isn't here, email us. Most answers depend on your platform and data.
What's the difference between email marketing and lifecycle marketing?
Email marketing often means scheduled campaigns sent to a list. Lifecycle marketing adds automated messages triggered by what each customer does, so communication follows their relationship with you.
Which email platforms do you work with?
Klaviyo, HubSpot, Mailchimp, Customer.io, Braze, Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Brevo, among others. We work in the platform you already have unless there's a clear reason to move.
Can you migrate us to a new email platform?
Yes. Flows, templates, segments and suppression lists are mapped and rebuilt, and sending volume is increased gradually on the new platform to protect deliverability.
How do you improve email deliverability?
By fixing domain authentication (SPF, DKIM and DMARC), removing unengaged and invalid contacts, keeping complaint rates low and sending consistently. Nobody can guarantee inbox placement, but these are the factors a sender controls.
Do you write the emails as well as build them?
Yes. Copy and responsive templates are part of the service. Longer editorial content can come from the Content department.
How is consent handled?
We send only to contacts with valid consent recorded in your platform, and build unsubscribe and preference handling to your policy. We don't buy lists or give legal advice on consent.
Why don't you rely on open rates?
Privacy features in some mail apps register opens that never happened, so open rates overstate engagement. Decisions are based on clicks, conversions and revenue or pipeline instead.
Can email and lifecycle marketing be managed remotely?
Yes. Everything is built and run inside your email platform and connected data sources, under access you control.
What do you need from us to start?
Access to your email platform, someone who can update DNS records, brand assets, and your consent policy.
