Revenue Operations department
Marketing calls it a lead. Sales calls it something else by the time it reaches the pipeline. Somewhere in between, the CRM stops agreeing with itself and two dashboards show two different numbers. Nexoryl builds and runs the operating layer that keeps your systems, data and handoffs working as one connected process — delivered digitally, inside the tools you already run.
- Operating model
- A managed department: designed, staffed, documented, run and measured by Nexoryl against a plan agreed with you. Not software configured once and left, and not contractors placed into your team.
- Delivery model
- Digital and remote. The department works through software, data and online communication, inside your CRM and reporting systems, not through field or in-person activity.
- Usual starting scope
- CRM operations and lead management: routing, qualification workflows, pipeline hygiene and a first reporting layer, before automation and forecasting support are added.
- Typical roles
- A RevOps analyst, a CRM/systems administrator, and a Nexoryl operations manager accountable for the operating cadence.
- Runs inside
- Your CRM, marketing and reporting stack, under named access you grant and can revoke.
- Engagement
- Pilot-firstA monthly retainer reviewed against agreed measures, built in stages. How an engagement is built.
Overview
What is Revenue Operations?
Revenue Operations, usually shortened to RevOps, is the function that aligns the people, processes, data and systems behind Marketing, Sales and Customer teams into one connected operating model.
The point of RevOps is agreement: a lead, a deal and a customer record should mean the same thing wherever they are looked at. Without that, three teams can be measuring three different versions of the same funnel and never notice.
RevOps does not replace Marketing, Sales or Customer teams. It runs the CRM, the workflows, the handoffs and the reporting that those teams depend on. See the full service architecture
Nexoryl model
What does Nexoryl’s Revenue Operations department do?
It administers your CRM, manages the lead and pipeline lifecycle, connects marketing and sales data, automates repeatable workflows, and reports on the revenue funnel — operated digitally, inside the systems you already run, against measures agreed with you.
Revenue Operations is one of the 48 functions Nexoryl builds and operates as a managed department. It is delivered as a defined portfolio of services, grouped into service families, so scope is always explicit rather than assumed.
- It is responsible for
- CRM administration, lead and pipeline operations, revenue automation, data governance, and revenue reporting.
- It does not replace
- Marketing’s positioning and campaigns, or Sales’ selling and closing — those stay with your teams.
- It connects to
- Marketing, Lead Generation, Sales and Customer Success.
The revenue engine
RevOps doesn’t replace the revenue teams. It connects the system they operate in.
Market attention becomes a lead, a lead becomes an opportunity, an opportunity becomes a customer. Each stage changes owner. Revenue Operations is the layer that keeps the record intact as ownership changes.
Revenue Operations
The connecting layer underneath every stage above: shared definitions, CRM structure, workflow automation, data standards and one reporting layer that describes the whole funnel.
Market and Customer sit at the edges of the engine. Nexoryl’s Revenue Operations service architecture focuses on the connecting layer — CRM, lead, pipeline and data operations — described in full below.
Why the function exists
The problems RevOps is built to catch.
None of these are exotic. They are what happens when a growing business adds people and tools faster than it agrees how the two should work together.
Different systems, different lead
- Shows up as
- Marketing counts a lead the moment Sales still calls it unqualified.
- We look at
- Lead and lifecycle-stage definitions across every system that touches a record.
- What changes
- Shared definitions and stage criteria, agreed once and applied everywhere.
The pipeline nobody trusts
- Shows up as
- Deals sit in the wrong stage, and the forecast moves every time someone looks closely.
- We look at
- Stage entry and exit criteria, close dates and how long deals sit untouched.
- What changes
- Pipeline hygiene and deal-stage governance, run on a schedule.
Reports that disagree
- Shows up as
- Two dashboards, two numbers, and a meeting spent reconciling instead of deciding.
- We look at
- Where each metric is defined, and where the definitions have drifted apart.
- What changes
- One set of metric definitions, feeding one reporting layer.
Work that repeats by hand
- Shows up as
- The same routing, follow-up or update, done manually every time, and missed under volume.
- We look at
- Which steps are rules-based and repeatable, and which need a person’s judgement.
- What changes
- Documented, automated workflows for the repeatable part; people kept on the judgement calls.
Department model
People alone are not a department.
Every Nexoryl department, including this one, is built from the same seven parts. Together they are what turns a set of services into an operating function.
- 01
Objective
What the department must accomplish, agreed with you before anything is built.
- 02
People
The digital operational roles and coverage needed to deliver the agreed services.
- 03
Processes
Documented workflows, rules, handoffs and escalation paths.
- 04
Technology
Your CRM, automation and reporting systems, configured and operated inside your own stack.
- 05
Management
A Nexoryl operations manager coordinating delivery and accountable for it.
- 06
Quality
Data, workflows and reporting reviewed for accuracy on a standing cadence.
- 07
KPIs
The department measured continuously against the operational measures agreed with you.
Service architecture
Revenue Operations services, organised by service family.
The department’s services sit in a clear hierarchy: Revenue Operations Department → Service Families → Services. Nine service families are shown below. Select one to see the services inside it.
Strategy & Architecture Services
The foundation the rest of the department is built on: what the operating model is, before anything is configured.
CRM Operations Services
CRM administration is one service family within Revenue Operations, run inside the CRM you already use.
Lead Management Services
The system and process a lead moves through — distinct from lead generation itself, which sits with Lead Generation.
Pipeline Operations Services
The pipeline as a system of record: managing it is different from working the deals inside it, which stays with Sales.
Sales Operations Services
The systems and data behind the sales process. Selling and closing stay with your Sales team.
Marketing Operations Services
The operational layer connecting Marketing to revenue, without duplicating Marketing’s own execution.
Revenue Automation & Integration Services
Repeatable, rules-based work removed from manual queues, and systems kept in sync where they support it.
Revenue Data, Reporting & Forecasting Services
One set of definitions, feeding dashboards and forecast data your team can rely on.
Customer Lifecycle Operations Services
Revenue Operations can extend past the sale. Customer-facing delivery stays with Customer Success.
Services are grouped for clarity, not sold piece by piece. Most engagements start with one service family — commonly CRM Operations or Lead Management — and widen once it is running.
Delivery model
Delivered digitally, inside your systems.
Every service above is performed through software, data and online communication. Nothing in the Revenue Operations department requires anyone to be physically present.
Included
- Working inside your CRM, marketing and reporting systems
- Configuring and monitoring workflows and automations
- Managing data, records and reporting
- Coordinating handoffs between systems and teams, online
Not included
- Field or in-person sales
- Site visits or physical inspections
- Door-to-door or event-based outreach
- Any activity that requires being physically present

Operating loop
Establish once. Operate continuously.
Nexoryl doesn’t configure the CRM once and leave. The same eight-step loop runs continuously, with the last step feeding the next round.
- 01
Define
Agree the objective, ownership and definitions the department will run on.
- 02
Map
Chart the current lifecycle, handoffs and where the process actually breaks.
- 03
Configure
Build the CRM structure, stages and fields the operating model depends on.
- 04
Automate
Move repeatable, rules-based work out of manual queues.
- 05
Document
Write down what runs, on what trigger, owned by whom.
- 06
Operate
Run the department against the agreed cadence, day to day.
- 07
Measure
Report against the KPIs agreed during design.
- 08
Improve
Feed what was measured back into the next definition.
Systems
Your stack, your system of record.
Depending on your stack, Nexoryl can work inside or connect compatible CRM, marketing, automation and analytics systems — examples of what teams commonly use, not a required list.

System of record
Your CRM
Stage, notes, next step and owner live here, under access you grant and can revoke. There is no parallel system and no export step.
Reads from the record
Your reporting
Dashboards assembled from your own systems, so the numbers your team sees are the ones in your own stack.
Where a platform in your stack isn’t listed, it is almost certainly still workable. Onboarding covers access, permissions and any tool-specific training before the department goes live.
Measurement
How Revenue Operations is measured.
Five operational categories feed the outcomes leadership actually cares about. Typical measures depend on your business model, systems and available data; targets are agreed during design, not quoted in advance.
Lead management
- Lead response time
- Qualification rate
- SLA adherence
- Lead-to-opportunity rate
Pipeline
- Pipeline coverage
- Pipeline velocity
- Stage conversion
- Opportunity aging
Sales
- Win rate
- Sales cycle length
- Average deal size

Maturity model
A working picture of where the operation stands.
A conceptual model Nexoryl uses to size an engagement, not an external certification. Most businesses start somewhere between the first and second stage.
Fragmented
Teams work in separate systems, with no shared definitions.
Defined
Ownership, stages and definitions are agreed and documented.
Connected
Systems share data, and handoffs happen on a rule, not a request.
Measured
Performance is visible on one consistent set of metrics.
Optimised
The operation is reviewed and improved on a standing cadence.
Engagement model
Build, then operate — not configure and leave.
The department is bought as an agreed operating scope, not a block of hours. The full engagement is described in How It Works.
Design & build
- 01
Assess
Current systems, data and process are reviewed against your goals.
- 02
Design
Scope, roles and the measures the department will be run against are agreed.
- 03
Configure
CRM structure, automation and reporting are built inside your systems.
- 04
Document
Workflows, rules and escalation paths are written down and version-controlled.
Operate & improve
- 05
Operate
The department runs to the agreed cadence, with a Nexoryl manager accountable for it.
- 06
Improve
Performance is reviewed against KPIs, and the operating model is revised on evidence.
Expand
Additional services, service families or connected departments — Marketing, Lead Generation, Sales, BI & Analytics — can be added once the initial scope is running, under the same governance and reporting.
How this differs
Hiring, consulting, a BPO, or a managed department.
Each approach has its place. The distinction is structural: who designs the operating model, and who stays accountable for it once it’s running.
| Dimension | Hiring | Consulting | Traditional BPO | Nexoryl |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Who designs the operating model | Whoever you hire, once they’ve settled in. | The consultant, as a recommendation. | Usually fixed to a defined task scope. | Nexoryl, agreed with you during design. |
| Who manages daily work | You do. | You do, after the engagement ends. | The provider, against a fixed scope. | A Nexoryl operations manager. |
| How output is measured | However you choose to set it up. | Rarely, once the recommendation is delivered. | Volume or hours against the contract. | KPIs agreed during design, reported continuously. |
| Where the work happens | Wherever you set your employee up. | Mostly workshops and documents. | The provider’s own systems, typically. | Inside your own CRM and systems. |
| What you’re buying | A person and a seat. | Advice and a recommendation. | Execution of a defined task. | A managed department: people, process, systems, management and KPIs. |
Access & data handling
Your systems, your permissions.
- Named accounts at the permission level you set
- Revocable by you at any time
- No parallel systems and no exported data
- An audit trail that stays inside your own tooling
Who this suits
When a Revenue Operations department earns its place.
Most suited to SaaS, technology, e-commerce, professional services and other B2B businesses with real volume moving through their CRM. These are common signals, not a checklist that guarantees fit.
Suits businesses where
- Marketing and Sales run in disconnected systems
- Growth has outpaced the current operating process
- There are multiple revenue channels to reconcile
- An existing RevOps effort needs more operational capacity
Common signals
- CRM data is unreliable or inconsistent
- Pipeline reporting is built by hand every week
- Lead routing is slow or unclear
- Revenue reporting takes longer than it should
Adjacent departments

Questions
Questions about the Revenue Operations department.
If something here isn’t covered, ask us directly. The answer is usually specific to your systems.
Revenue Operations, usually shortened to RevOps, is the function that aligns the people, processes, data and systems behind Marketing, Sales and Customer teams into one connected operating model, so a lead, a deal and a customer record mean the same thing wherever they are looked at.
It administers your CRM, manages the lead and pipeline lifecycle, connects marketing and sales data, automates repeatable workflows, and reports on the revenue funnel. The department is operated digitally, inside the systems you already run, against measures agreed with you.
The department works inside the CRM you already use. Configuration, data standards, automation and reporting are built on top of your existing system rather than a parallel one, so your records and your history stay in one place.
Yes, under named access at the permission level you set. Nexoryl works inside CRM, marketing automation, analytics and communication tools you already run rather than requiring a migration, and confirms compatibility during design for anything outside the common platforms.
Yes. Lead Management Services cover routing and assignment rules, qualification workflows, SLA monitoring for response time, and lifecycle and source tracking, so leads reach an owner on a rule rather than a guess.
Yes. Pipeline Operations Services cover stage governance, hygiene, aging and stall detection, win/loss recording and pipeline reporting, so stage, owner and next step stay current and coverage is visible.
Yes, where the underlying process is documented. Revenue Automation & Integration Services cover routing and notification automation, system-to-system data sync, SLA alerts and, where supported, API and webhook workflows between connected tools.
Nexoryl prepares the pipeline data, stage definitions and reporting that a forecasting process depends on. Forecasting itself is a business decision made by your team; Nexoryl does not guarantee forecast accuracy.
No. Revenue Operations runs the operating layer, CRM, data, workflows and reporting, underneath Marketing and Sales. Positioning, campaigns, selling and closing stay with your teams.
Yes. The department can take on a defined layer of the operation, such as CRM administration or lead routing, while your team retains strategic and commercial decisions, with scope agreed and reviewed as the function matures.
Delivery is digital and remote. The department works through software, data and online communication inside your CRM, marketing and reporting systems. It does not include field sales, site visits, physical inspections or any activity that requires being physically present.
Hiring gives you people you manage yourself. Consulting typically ends at a recommendation. A BPO usually executes a fixed task scope. Nexoryl designs the operating model, builds the systems and workflows, then continues to operate, measure and improve them as a managed department.
Yes, and that is the usual approach. Most engagements start with one service family, commonly CRM operations or lead management, with the process documented before scope widens.
With an assessment of your current systems, data and process, followed by a design stage that agrees scope, roles and measures. The department is then built, connected to your systems and put into ongoing operation, with a review cadence from day one.
